15 Squadron (Aim Sure) Stirling I aircraft BF 329 LS-A was shot down over Belgium outward-bound, by night fighter pilot Oberleutnant Kurt Martinek of the 9/NJG 4, who had taken off from Juvincourt airfield in France. The Stirling crashed in the Bois de Roly woods SE of Romedenne, Philippeville, province of Namur, Belgium. Sergeant LJ Blackmore (RAFVR)(Nfld), Pilot Officer J.L. Sturgess (RCAF), Sergeant OT Jeans (RAFVR)(Nfld), Sergeant R Helyar (RAFVR), Sergeant T Shoesmith (RAFVR) and FS K McAusland (RAFVR) killed, Sergeant PD Goodbourne (RAFVR) taken Prisoner of War. There is a memorial at the crash site.
