Annis transferred from the CEF to the RFC and became a pilot-instructor at Camp Borden. He was involved in a flying accident crash in a JN-4 'Canuck' on 1918-05-03. He died of his injuries on 1918-05-04. It is unclear who was piloting at the time of the crash. The student-pilot, Flt. Cadet F.L.Duggan recovered from his injuries but did not fly again.
