576 Squadron (Carpe Diem). Lancaster aircraft ME 726 lost while on a mine-laying operation. Seven RAF members of the crew, Flying Officer C. Ashcroft, FSs B.J. Hudson, R.E. Leatham, Sergeants A.W. Knapp, A.G. Wright, Flight Lieutenant E.J. Presland D.F.C., and Pilot Officer A.E. Slade were also killed. There were two pilots on board for this trip. Flying Officer Abramson had completed one tour of operations and had nearly completed his second tour at the time of his death.
