44 Rhodesia Squadron (Fulmina Regis lusta). Lancaster aircraft PD 222 failed to return from a daylight trip to Brest, France. Flying Officer H.G. Gilchrist, FS J.M. McLeod, FS D.J. Maguire (RAF), and one RAAF member of the crew were also killed. One Canadian, FS McNeilage, was taken Prisoner of War, one of the crew, not Canadian, missing presumed killed.
