12.3.1944 Flying Officer W. A, Doyle from 3(RCAF) PRC to 403 Sqn, Flying Officer W. A. Doyle, RCAF of 132 Sqn. was killed in the crash of Spitfire IX NH575 (FF-F) on 20 August 1944; Col Bruggy - "žSpitfire IX NH575 is recorded as bursting into flames on crash-landing , and there is remote chance that Doyle suffered burns. l won't speculate further than that!"
Col was right!
Born Manitoba 18.7.1920. Died 14.3.2010, West Point Grey Branch, Vancouver, Canada aged 90.
Shot in jaw. In hospital treated by nuns. No Germans about. Liberated 25 August 1944. Flown back to Basingstoke hospital. Interviewed 27 November 1944. Report MISC/INT/806
