Smith enlisted in the RFC as an AM3, and stayed in that job until 1918-02-08. On 1918-02-10 he turned up as a flight instructor at 66TS Yatesbury.
1918-05-21: Smith died in DH.6, C-5508, when it "hit the ground at about 100mph on right wing, engine switches on and throttle fully open"
