1918-04-01: posted to 57 Sqn. 1918-04-23: D-8406, DH-4; rear of the engine caught fire while gliding down at 100 feet, it nose-dived to the ground, and over turned and burned completely on return from bombing Bapaume. Both 2Lt Townsend (pilot) and 2Lt Charles Campbell Souchotte, his British air-gunner died of his injuries.
