1914-10-26: Hosking was a Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery, attached to the RFC, when his aircraft was was shot down by Allied rifle fire while reconnoitring at 1,000 feet altitude over Poperinghe. Because of Inadequate markings on the underside of his plane, the ground troops could not tell whether it belonged to Germany or the Allies, so EVERYONE shot at it.
