It is signed by the late Bill Bryant RAF who was the navigator of that aircraft piloted by Bob Boorman RCAF. The caption reads "This Stars Stripes photograph was taken on 14 September 1944 and shows a Mosquito Mk XIII of 409 Squadron RCAF. Applebye enlisted in the CEF on 1914-09-25. On 1918-01-27, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. Appleby was posted to 104 Sqn on 1918-05-17 and scored 6 victories as an observer aboard D.H.9s. Lieutenant Appleby became an American citizen on 1935-02-04. He returned to military service during World War II serving as a recruiting officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941-05-30 until 1944-11-25.
