Clappison served with the 91st Highlander Regiment before joining the RFC in March 1917. 2nd Lt. Clappison was promoted to acting Captain on 1918-10-14. Capt. H. G. Clappison relinquished his commission due to ill health but retained the rank of Captain on 1919-04-15.
