Goulding transferred to the RFC around July, 1917. After flight training he joined 17 Squadron in Egypt as a Lieutenant, where he flew BE2c's and DH-2s. He was raised to Captain and transferred to 150 Sqn at Salonika, Macedonia at the end of April, 1918, flying SE 5 and Camels. He had amassed nine confirmed victories by the end of his time . He served in WWII in the RCAF, joining in March of 1940. As a Group Captain he commanded the No. 18 Flying Training Service School at Gimli, Manitoba to the end of the war.
