12 Spitfires took off on a Wing sweep over France, heavy flak was experienced and while between Cassal and Poperinge. F/O Jones of this Squadron was shot down,, his aircraft was last seen under control with glycol fumes pouring out. Date of Capture: 1942-03-08 in the Calais area.

P/O Daley claims a damaged Me109 when he attacked that aircraft as it was shooting at P/O Jones. The Wing Commander Flying from here (North Weald) was also shot down.

Jones was in Spitfire AD463 (according to the ORB) but a discussion in RAFCOMMANDS suggests that it might actually be AB206 – as AD463 was with 234 Sqn after this date. Rob Forbes

(CASPIR shows for AB206 - 121S 08-01-1942 Missing on sweep 08-03-1942 presumed shot down by flak nr Cassel 08-03-1942)
