Took off in Spitfire Mk lX EN311 .

ORB: In a free-lance fighter sweep to the Tunis area by 12 aircraft, airborne at 1600 hours the Squadron suffered its first loss to enemy action since 5/1/1943. We flew at 22,000 feet and met 12 Me109s over Djedeida. W/O Gear destroyed 1 Me109.  He was hit by fire from me109 but managed to return. WO (Red) Hunter last seen chasing 1 Me109 with 2 Me109s on his tail did not return. WO Hunter was one of the original squadron party to come to North Africa.
