260 Squadron (Celer Et Fortis). Twelve Kittyhawk aircraft were strafing enemy ground transport when four enemy ME-109 fighter aircraft caught the Kittyhawk pilots by surprise by attacking out of the sun. Three of the Kittyhawks were shot down, FS E.J. McCloskey and one RAF pilot were also killed. The remainder of the flight returned to base although two other Kittyhawks were badly shot up.
