Sandys was born in Calcutta, India and enlisted in the RFC in Canada in early 1916. On 1917-09-05 he was shot down in combat and died in the crash when his aircraft fell on the bank of the Ypres Canal, and then fell into the canal. The aircraft was completely demolished by the crash.
