Orr sailed to England to join the Royal Air Force. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 1918-03-10 and posted to 204 Squadron on 1918-08-01. On the morning of 1918-10-23, his flight had just completed a bombing mission when it was engaged by enemy fighters near Termonde. In the battle that followed, Orr and four other Sopwith Camel pilots were killed in action when their aircraft were shot down..
