402 City of Winnipeg Squadron. Spitfire aircraft AA 880 and Spitfire AB 897 collided in mid-air one half mile north of the airfield at Wellingore, Lincolnshire. Flying Officer Morris was killed but the pilot of aircraft AB 897 escaped uninjured. Flying Officer Morris had been slightly injured on February 13, 1943 when the engine of his Hurricane aircraft cut out and he had to make an emergency landing.
