92 Squadron (Aut Pugna Aut Morere). Flying Officer McCann was flying Spitfire aircraft JG 121 on a strafing operation south-west of Ravenna when the aircraft appeared to be hit by flak as the aircraft began emitting black smoke. The Spitfire crashed and exploded when it hit the ground one mile south of Bagnacavallo, approximately nine miles west of Ravenna.
