109 Squadron (Primi Hastati). Wellington Ic aircraft Z 1048 did not return from night operations over enemy territory and crashed in Bierwart, in Belgium. Pilot Officer M.D. Mackenzie, Sgt(s) A. Bentham (RAF), D.M. Brown (RAF), A.R.V. Matthissen (RAF), A.R. Pain (RAF), and Flight Sergeant R. Hunt (RAF) were also killed. .
