1917-10-08: Laird died in RE-8, A-3261; when a strong wind gust caught the machine, which stalled and nosedived to the ground just outside the aerodrome on take off during an artillery cooperation mission to Tenbrielen. His observer-gunner, 2Lt John Thomas Long (British) died of his wounds and injuries two days later on 1917-10-10.
