18 Squadron (Animo Et Fide). The crew of Boston aircraft Z 2226 were on an armed reconnaissance over Rome, Italy when both engines failed. Warrant Officer Gibbon maintained control of the aircraft long enough for his crew to bail out. He went down with the aircraft which crashed seven miles north-west of Foggia, Italy
