Dowler went missing in C-8391, Sopwith Camel; after colliding in air with Camel F-6285 while on patrol. 2Lt George Emerson Dowler missing, presumed dead, body was recovered and buried beside the person with whom he collided, 2Lt. William Gordon Coulthurst (British).
Dowler was the last Canadian aviator to die in WWI.
