Took off from Middleton St. George at 23:00 in Whitley Mk V (Sqn code EY-W Bomber Command) on an operation to Hamm Germany.

Aircraft failed to return from operations over Germany. While over the target, the aircraft was damaged by flak and had an engine knocked out and later, over the North Sea west of Texel island, the Whitley was intercepted and further damaged by an unidentified Bf 110 aircraft. Finally, the aircraft ditched on the sea off the English coast.
