Took off from Mildenhall at 23:35 in Stirling Mk III (Sqn code LS-E Bomber Command) on an operation to Gelsenkirchen Germany.

Shot down by a night fighter and crashed into the Waddenzee, Dantziggat, S of Ameland, Friesland Holland.

Aircraft crashed into the Wadden Sea, south of Ameland Island Holland. All crew were killed.

Flight Sergeant Campbell's body washed ashore July 8, 1943 at Dijksterburen, south of Harlingen, Friesland, Holland and is buried there.
