233 Sqn (Ymlaen) RAF Sumburgh, Hudson I aircraft N 7377 ZS-J believed shot down by German Luftwaffe "ace" Gordon Max "Mac" Gollob while on anti-submarine patrol over the North Sea near the Shetland Islands, Scotland. Gollob is also believed to have shot down a Short Sunderland flying boat (N 6133 "Y") from 201 Sqn the same day. Pilot Officer RM Buchanan (RAF)(Can), Pilot Officer LJE Ewing MiD (RAF)(NZ), Sergeant RG Ireland (RAF) and Sergeant DC Sinclair (RAF) missing, presumed killed. They have no known graves and are commemorated on the Runnymede War Memorial.
