99 Squadron (Quisque Tenax) RAF Waterbeach, Wellington Ic aircraft T 2879 LN-C, on return leg, was hit by Flak of the Flakgruppe Amsterdam in both engines and finished off by fighter pilot Unteroffizier Johannes Lompa of the 6/JG 53, who was flying a Bf 109F from Bergen airfield. The air crew abandoned the Wellington over the sea and it crashed near Van Beekstraat 258, Landsmeer, Noord-Holland. Pilot Officer WRJ Brown (RCAF), Sergeant HM MacDonald (RNZAF) and Sergeant IJ Robertson (RAF) were killed, their bodies were recovered and buried in the cemeteries in the Netherlands. Sergeant AWM Chapman (RAAF), Sergeant JS Parry (RNZAF) and Sergeant E Fieldhouse (RAFVR) missing, presumed killed and have no known graves. They are commemorated on the Runnymede War Memorial.
