126 Squadron (Foremost In Attack) Spitfire Vc aircraft BP 976-O was shot down on a patrol out of Malta. Pilot Officer SF Brooker (RAFVR)(Can) baled out but was shot by the pilot of an enemy ME-109 fighter aircraft as he descended. His body was not recovered. and he is commemorated on the Malta War Memorial.
Pilot Officer Brooker had arrived in Malta the previous day flying a 601 Sqn Spitfire off the carrier USS Wasp.
