442 Caribou Squadron. Flying Officer Brigden was killed when he crashed trying to land his Spitfire aircraft MK 420. The Spitfire had been damaged in action over Venlo, Holland. Flying Officer Brigden's home airfield was under heavy enemy attack at the time. This was part of the big enemy attack on New Year's day against all the major Allied aerodromes in the area.
