260 Squadron (Celer Et Fortis). FS Jim (Stocky) Edwards, later W/C Edwards, was leading part of the Squadron of Kittyhawk aircraft when they were jumped by eight ME-109 German fighter aircraft. Two of the top German fighter aces, Hans Marseille (3/JG 27( and Hans Slohlschmidt (2/JG 27) were in this group and Marseille was responsible for Pilot Officer Bernier's death by shooting down Bernier's Kittyhawk aircraft FL 226 during a fierce dog fight. Marseille was credited with destroying 158 Allied aircraft.
