40 Squadron (Hostem A Coelo Expellere). Wellington Ic aircraft R 1066 K lost after a long fight with an Italian Fiat CR42 fighter while on an operation to Naples, Italy. The aircraft crashed near Ottaviano, Itlay. FS TJ Arsenault (RCAF), Sergeant LJ Abbott (RAAF), Pilot Officer AJ Pyle (RAF) and Sergeant WH Poole (RAF) were killed. Flying Officer DF Hutt (RAF) and Pilot Officer IE Miller (RAF) survived and were taken Prisoner of War.
