148 Squadron (Trusty). Wellington Ic aircraft HX 400 missing during a raid against the harbour at Tobruk. Pilot Officer MA Bennetto (RCAF), FS Ford (RAF), Sergeant RC Drake (RAF) and Sergeant CJ Griffiths (RAF) killed, Flight Lieutenant JG Brown (RAF) and Sergeant CS Parker (RAF) missing. Sergeant Bennetto, Sergeant Drake, Sergeant Griffiths and Sergeant Parker had walked out from a crash landed 184 Sqn Wellington Ic aircraft DV 654 May 29-30 1942, when it suffered an engine fire and belly landed in the desert, where it was destroyed by the crew. They then walked to the border with Egypt where they managed to signal an aircraft and were rescued by a patrol. (www.bombercommandmuseumarchives.ca)
