Took off from Skipton-on-Swale at 22:24 in Halifax Mk III (Sqn code BM-W Bomber Command) on an operation to Dusseldorf Germany.
Damaged by flak over the target it was shot down over Weert, Holland by a night fighter. The crew bailed out with the aircraft on fire and came down near Meeuwen, Holland. Three crew were killed, three were made POW and one evaded for a period of months before also being made a POW.

POWs includes Canter: Flying Officer Arnold Willy Norris RCAF J/20921 evaded for a number of months before capture and made a POW Stalag Luft L3 Sagan and Belaria. Flight Sergeant Anthony Mac Publio Camenzuli RAF POW Stalag Luft L8.
Flying Officer Canter was repatriated to Canada in June of 1945 and returned to civilian life. Cantor volunteered and was one of the first Canadian pilots to enlist in the Israeli Air Force in 1948. He participated as a pilot in several combat missions. Sadly, he was killed 1948-10-24 on board a Dakota C-47 during a refueling flight, at night, bound for Sdom, on the Dead Sea. An overheated engine caught fire shortly after takeoff and the aircraft exploded before crashing near Tel Aviv killing all five crew members. Wilfred Canter rests in the cemetery of Rehovot in Israel
