Shot down by a German aircraft. **L.S.**Van Allen was shot down in his Caudron aircraft during a bombing raid on the Mariakerk Aerodrome in Belgium. He was captured by Germans troops and made a prisoner of war, but died a week later of the injuries sustained in the air battle and crash.
