Reid joined the RNAS in England. After training he was posted to No. 3 Wing in July 1916. In early 1917, when the unit was disbanded due to heavy losses, Reid was reassigned to 10(N) Sqn. With this squadron he scored 18 victories flying the Sopwith Triplane in the summer of 1917. Missing in action on 1917-07-28, Reid was later reported killed in action.
