1917-09-21: Gilbert died in Brisfit, A-7233; seen to collide with another Brisfit machine at 10,000 feet and fall to pieces 2,000 yards East, of Ypres while on an offensive patrol. Gilbert and his air-gunner AM2 Charles Loveland (British) also died in the crash.
