76 Squadron (Resorute). Halifax aircraft LW 696 was shot down by a German night fighter aircraft near Daubhausen, Germany during night operations against Nuremberg, Germany. Warrant Officer R.E. Mogalki, Squadron Leader K.A. Clack D.F.M. (RAF), Pilot Officer D.H. Edwards (RAF), Flying Officer D.C. Nowell (RAF), Sergeant L.W.A. Peall (RAF), and FS K.J. Shropshall (RAF) were also killed. This was Flying Officer Thomson's 34th operation and his was one of 108 Allied aircraft lost this night.
