The pilot of Halifax aircraft DT 750 EQ-U made a crash landing near Kirby, Wiske, Yorkshire while returning home after an operation to Cologne, Germany, after the port outer engine caught fire and the port inner lost power. Flying Officer JC Parker (RCAF)(USA) baled at too low an altitude and was killed when his parachute failed to fully open
