626 Squadron (To Strike And Not To Yield). Aircraft was shot down by a night fighter. All the crew bailed out and landed safely, except for Sgt Beattie and P/O Cox, who were killed in the initial attack.. Flying Officer Bolderston and two RAF members of the crew were murdered and mutilated by the civilian population near Nuremberg, Germany at Plittersdorf, Kreis, Rastatt, Germany. The other four members of the crew were taken Prisoners of War.
