221 Squadron (From Sea To Sea). Wellington aircraft HX 398 failed to return from a trip. Flight Lieutenant F.C. Anderson, FS M.E. Barker (RAF), Sergeants W.G. Creed (RAF), N. Jones (RAF), Flying Officer A.F.J. Duncan (RAF), and Pilot Officer H. Rowson (RAF) were also killed. Addendum: - Distinguished Flying Cross -No.38 Squadron - Award effective 4 January 1943 as per London Gazette dated 8 January 1943 and AFRO 232143 dated 12 February 1943. Award presented, citation reads "In October 1942, this officer was the pilot of a formation of aircraft detailed to make a daylight attack on an enemy ship in Tobruk Harbour. Displaying great skill and determination, he made a successful attack scoring at least one hit on the target. His determined attack contributed much to the combined effort of the Operation which achieved the destruction of the vessel. Flying Officer Bertran displayed high courage and devotion to duty."
