Desmond Percival Fitzgerald Uniacke attended St. John's College, Hurstpierpoint and was serving with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 23 September 1916. A Bristol F.2b observer with 48 Squadron, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in May 1917. He scored 13 victories with pilot Ralph Curtis before both were shot down over Roulers on 21 September 1917 by Hermann Göring of Jasta 27. Curtis died from his wounds and Uniacke was taken prisoner. 1917-05-09: accepted a Observer on probation 1917-09-21: PoW in A-7224, Bristol Fighter; seen to go down overwhelmed by Enemy Aircraft 10 miles North-East of Roulers - repatriated 25.12.18. 2Lt RL Curtis (pilot)DoW.
