Wilson joined the CEF with the 19th Alberta Dragoons Regiment where he rose to Corporal. When he was attached to the RFC on 1916-02-23 with 7 Sqn he was made a 2nd-Lieutenant. After wireless and observer training he was posted back to 7 Sqn, but spent most of the war as a technical officer with 2 Corps, Wing HQ.
