Rainsford died from a fractured skull after an accidental fall from a motor bicycle at Easthampstead, Berkshire.
HMS Penbroke II was a RNAS shore base at Eastchurch, Isle Of Sheppey, transferred to the RAF during the latter part of WWI. The base was involved in the development of aircraft take-off/landing platforms on warships.
