Enlisted in the Canadian Field Artillery (58th Battery) in January 1916. He resigned from the Canadian Field Artillery some time in 1917 and joined the Royal Flying Corps. He did his training and didn't really start missions until March of 1918. He had 11 "victories" until he was wounded on April 13, 1918 by enemy ground fire. He was officially invalided out of service in Aug. 1919.
The Royal Flying Corps became the Royal Air Force on April 1, 1918...so he was officially in the RAF when he was wounded. He is listed as a flying ace and won the military cross. (source Julia Payne)
