411 Grizzly Bear Squadron (Inimicus Inimico. Spitfire aircraft MJ 288 was shot down fifteen miles northwest of Cambrai, France. Ex Flight Lieutenant D. Matheson now of Edmonton, Alberta had this to say about the sortie, "John St Dennis was my wingman when we took off for a sweep into France at a low-level. We were both hit by cannon fire from those mobile multiple cannon trucks which were very accurate. We both crashed and I got out and got away. I spent several months with the underground and ended up as a Prisoner of War." The engine of St Dennis' Spitfire was dug up recently by a team under Andrew Coilliot of Beaurains, France. A monument was erected in a village near the site.
