158 Squadron (Strength In Unity) RAF Lissett. Halifax BIII aircraft MZ 337 NP-A was shot down by flak over the target Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The Halifax crashed near Kirchhellen, Germany

Pilot, Flying Officer RL Sleeth (RCAF), Sergeant JH Boocock (RAFVR), FS A Laing (RAAF) and Sergeant JL Mitchell (RAFVR) were all killed in action. Flying Officer EWH Barker (RAFVR), Flying Officer RH Fox (RAFVR) and Sergeant TW Roberts (RAFVR) managed to bale and make it to the ground

Flying Officer Sleeth went down with the bomber and survived briefly in the wreckage but died from his wounds. Flying Officer Barker had been wound by the flak and died the same day in hospital. Flying Officer Fox and Sergeant Roberts became Prisoners of War

Flying Officer Sleeth is commemorated on the Gravenhurst War Memorial, Gravenhurst, Ontario

Sleeth Island, near Parry Sound, Ontario was named in honour of Flying Officer Sleeth
