544 Squadron. Mosquito aircraft LR 419 was returning from a photo reconnaissance trip over southern Europe when it crashed at Reeves Farm, Yalding, England. Flight Lieutenant Pilcher had been injured on January 27, 1942 when a11 Squadron Bomber Reconnaissance Hudson aircraft went down out of Torbay, Newfoundland whilst on an anti-sub patrol. G/C. Foss made two flights in a Tiger Moth aircraft to pick up the survivors. He had to return empty handed on one flight due to bad weather and trouble with a magneto.
