158 Squadron (Strength In Unity). The crew of Halifax aircraft HX 346 were engaged on a cross-country training flight with Flying Officer Nevins in control when the aircraft went into a spiral spin. The Captain took control and ordered the crew to bail out; he eventually righted the aircraft and made a crash landing at Halesworth aerodrome, England. All six other members of the crew bailed out but Flying Officer Nevins and one other airman, not Canadian, are believed to have slipped out of their parachute harness when the parachute opened and were killed on impact, there were no other casualties.
