9 Squadron (Per Noctem Volamus). Wellington I aircraft L 7795 failed to return from operations. Five of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. This was Flight Lieutenant Middleton's nineteenth trip. Flight Lieutenant D.D. Middleton and his two brothers Bruce and Donald were the only three Canadian brothers to join the RAF pre war. Donald Middleton was shot down on April 12, 1940 with Flight Lieutenant W. Donaldson of Lethbridge, Alberta in a 50 Squadron Hampden aircraft off Norway and both were Prisoners of War for over 5 years. Bruce Middleton was a Wing Commander, earned the A.F.C. in the RCAF, and was in charge of all mail deliveries to and from Canada during the war. Don's aircraft was found by Norwegian divers in the early 1980s and was put into a museum in Norway. Flight Lieutenant Middleton spent most of his 5 years as a Prisoner in Colditz Castle.
