15 Squadron (Aim Sure). Stirling aircraft BK 648 was shot down sixteen miles south-east of Dortmund, Germany at Menden during operations against Cologne, Germany. Six of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed.

This was Flight Lieutenant Hunt's 24th mission when lost. His plane was the only Stirling brought down that night, he was the victim of Feldwebel Hans Muller's FW 190, this was the first action for JG 300 squadron Wilde Sau night fighters, whose tactics first employed daytime single seat fighters in night time operations. For Muller's account of his victory, see "Jagdeschwader 300; Wilde Sau" by J.Y. Lorant and R. Goyat, Eagle Editions Ltd. Hamilton, Montana, 2005 pg. 26-28. (Source David Hill)
