24 Operational Training Unit. Whitley aircraft BD 232 was on a cross-country training flight and was last heard from nearing the Irish Sea. An air-sea rescue search was initiated as well as a search over the high ground of North Wales. On the 27th improved visibility allowed an aircraft from Llandwrog to locate the burned out wreckage in the Carnedd mountain range. A search party from was sent from Llandwrog and the bodies of the five crew recovered. The crash site is a few hundred yards NE of Llyn Dulyn lake. Sgt(s) Stuart (RNZAF), Smith (RAF), Hughes (RAF), and Hassell (RAF) were also killed: Detail provided by S.J. Hookey, Brighton, Ontario.
